Care Packages through the end of June are a celebration of LGBTQ Pride Month. I know it’s not much, but I want to put as much support as I could into the world, and this seemed like a good way to add a bit more. Happy Pride Month.

Quote: “Please remember, especially in these times of group-think and the right-on chorus, that no person is your friend (or kin) who demands your silence, or denies your right to grow and be perceived as fully blossomed as you were intended.” – Alice Walker
Travel/History: All the entries here through the end of June come from nyclgbsites.org, an excellent website that documents the historical and cultural locations in New York City that are associated with the LGBTQ community.

The LGBT Community Center, located at 208 West 13th Street in Manhattan, has been a hub of support since 1983. Six years later, the Gender Identity Project began here. Activist Larry Kramer spoke at the center in 1987, delivering a speech that motivated the founding of ACT UP (AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power).
