Sit down, take a look at yourself
Don’t you want to be somebody?
I’ve been in a bit of a yacht rock mood lately. And by lately, I mean the last two months or so.
I can’t suss out why the soft rock sounds of the late-1970s and ‘80s have appealed to me so much lately, but here we are. And I’m drawn to the sounds of Looking Glass, Hall & Oates, and Boz Skaggs like a moth to the flame.
(Note: My newfound interest in yacht rock is in no way an endorsement of yachts, yachting, or the gluttonous lifestyle associated with such. Go, orcas!)
Last night I was minding my own business, getting ready for bed, and a song I hadn’t thought of in decades turned on full blast in my head. And I was struck by how much it kicked ass.
The song was Lonesome Loser by Little River Band. I have no sentimental attachment to this tune, but it’s been stuck in my head all day today. And that hasn’t been a problem in the least.
Nothing profound to say beyond that. Sometimes a song from the past hits like a bolt from the blue, and the only thing you can do is let it wrap around your brain like a comfortable blanket. And when that happens, it’s pretty special.
