Sometimes the best songs are long and complex and let you swim around in them. Others are a bucket of cold water over your head, and they shake you from your navel gazing hard and fast.

Today is the Day — from Boston band Apollo Sunshine’s 2005 album, Shall Noise Upon — is the latter sort of song.

It’s raucous and rambunctious and supercharged for maximum joy. I’ve never listened to it and remained in a bad mood. Hearing it is sort of like smiling. When you do it, you don’t feel as bad.

It’s exactly the sort of song the world needs right now.
