I’m so glad it’s changed
(But now I’ve got you and it’s gonna last)
Do you believe in love
Huey Lewis & the News was the first band (or singer) that I called “my favorite.” I bought all their albums and still rank them fairly high in the echelons of music.
One of the things I enjoy most about their music is Huey Lewis’s voice, especially when he sings about love. And there’s no better example of that than Do You Believe In Love?
The dude sings that song with such enthusiasm and happiness that you know you’re being sung to by someone who does, in fact, believe in love. Especially the bridge (lyrics above).
When I was young and listening to Huey Lewis & the News, they made me want to be in love. It sounded like such an awesome thing to experience. And it wasn’t in a super-sexy way. It was an awesomeness being generated by spending time with the most amazing person in the world.
Also, Do You Believe In Love? is a real bop that’s filled with nostalgia. It takes me back to playing Pac-Man at the House of Pizza, renting VHS tapes, and listening to my Walkman on the school bus.
As spring continues to move in earlier than ever, the chances are good that if you see me in my car on a warm day, I’ll have the windows down, blasting Huey and the boys. And I bet if you listen closely, you’ll hear Huey and me singing about love like we really do believe in it.
And that’s because we do.
