Professor Sandman’s Cosmic Jukebox of Harmonic Consciousness: WICHITA LINEMAN by Friends of Dean Martinez

Jan. 22, 2024

I had a song picked out and ready to go, but then a headache came on, out of nowhere. So here’s something nice and mellow.

It’s a surf-guitar-driven instrumental version of the 1968 Glen Campbell classic, Wichita Lineman. Here, it’s performed by the incomparable Friends of Dean Martinez, which can be found on a 2004 benefit compilation called Keep Left, Vol. 1.

(The compilation raised money to support the work of radio broadcaster and writer David Barsamian. Barsamian is a hell of a good guy who has conducted incredibly extensive interviews with Noam Chomsky. Ok, I’m getting derailed here.)

Anyway, turn down the lights, press play, close your eyes, and get transported somewhere without headaches or whatever else you’d like to escape from.
